About the event

The first in a series of three events,  Madeleine West, co-founder of Safe on Social Media UK, an accomplished woman in both the entertainment and cyber safety industries and co-host Safe on Social Group CEO Kirra Pendergast, deep dive into understanding the 'self' beyond social media filters. This webinar is an all-ages event. We encourage parents to attend with their children.

All ticket holders will receive a code to download a recording of the session and resources even if they can't make the actual live event. Whether you're in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong or the United Kingdom, this event is for you.

Webinar #1 on the 24th of July will cover:

Self-Esteem and Confidence - Madeleine teaches young women to believe in their abilities and worth, encouraging them to share their achievements and positive experiences on social media platforms, celebrating their individuality and unique talents. Kirra will discuss the cyber safety aspects of building a positive online presence and tips for the major apps.

Positive Body Image - Facts behind the filters - In the context of social media, she emphasises the importance of not comparing oneself to highly-curated, often unrealistic images online. She stresses the significance of health over appearance and promotes the idea of "body positivity" on social media. Kirra will discuss filters, deep fakes and the production behind influencers, and how laws are starting to change to keep things real.

Resilience and Coping Skills - Madeleine helps girls develop skills to handle online stress and adversity, such as dealing with cyberbullying or negative comments, teaching them how to disengage and practice self-care. Kirra will discuss strategies to manage the emotional impact of online bullying.

Madeleine West's diverse career trajectory, which includes award-winning performances like Danielle McGuire in 'Underbelly' and as the well-loved Dee Bliss on 'Neighbours,' to top rating podcast "Predatory" has shaped her understanding of the social media's role in shaping self-perception.With her career spanning from acting on stage and screen to being a loving mother of six, Madeleine can meld her professional insights with personal wisdom. This uniquely equips her to engage young people in overcoming online challenges in an engaging and informative way.

Kirra’s lived experience sets her and Safe on Social apart. She experienced the nightmare of being the target of a vicious cyberbullying and online hate campaign orchestrated by someone she trusted in early 2014. This experience continues to influence her work. She often refers to her experience with cyberbullying now as her "superpower ." It is the reason she founded Safe on Social. This experience, combined with her extensive cyber security experience advising governments and organisations of all sizes for 18yrs prior, powers the training programs provided by Safe on Social.
