We’re heading into a new chapter in the story between young people and social media. This past week we have become deeply concerned that many Australian children don't even know this is happening.
From 10 December 2025, social media platforms will be legally required to block or remove accounts held by Australians under the age of 16. They’ll also need to use privacy-safe age-checking systems and give young people the right to download their data or challenge mistakes.
It’s a significant shift. But right now, not enough is being done to help the people it affects most understand what’s coming.
We’ve created a free, plain-language resource pack to help young people, parents, and schools make sense of the new age rules. This is not about fear. It’s about fairness. Every young person deserves to know what’s changing and why.....before they find out the hard way.
We support the delay. Fully. It’s a critical step in protecting children online. And it isn’t going away. But care and compassion are just as essential as regulation. We need to do more to make sure young people are informed, respected, and supported through the transition.
Inside the pack, we explain:
What the new law means both for under-16s and for the platformsHow the age checks will actually work including the requirement for a privacy-friendly, non-ID option
What to do if a young person’s account is wrongly flagged or removed
And how families and teachers can start the right conversations now, before the deadline arrives
We made this because we believe in informed kids, not blindsided ones.
We believe no child should wake up one morning to find their account gone, their connections severed, and no one able to explain why.
The new rules are coming. This guide will help you prepare.
